Photography, the way I do it, is for other people.
Sara Salomon has a unique relationship with photography. She recently received her first camera as a present, and because she had a lot of friends on the football team, decided to attend some games and take photos for them. This turned into a dedicated passion that also happened to fulfill her athletic requirement: sports photography.
Her job is to attend and take photos at one game each week, but she often goes to multiple games, and is really enthusiastic about taking photos for her friends and meeting new people. She enjoys sports photography because the experience of watching and playing sports revolves around motion, but a photograph shows individual, frozen moments that you wouldn’t see otherwise. For her, there is something special about catching people’s oftentimes weird faces on the field—she doesn’t over-edit her photos because she likes the messiness of the moment, which reflects real life. Essentially, Sara is attracted to photography because it is a way to give back to others.
In her words, “It was never a thing I did to put on my resume for college. It was always a ‘this is me supporting my friends, this is me meeting new people.” She feels that photography is especially liberating and modern, and because she does it as an outward art form, she believes it is something that she will take along with her wherever she goes.
